Worst. Day. Ever.

November 4th was one of the worst days of our lives, truly one of the scariest!
It was a normal weekend afternoon filled with playing and lounging around, Preston and I were sitting in our family room watching Paxton play. His new trick was turning toy trucks over and sliding them to the doors so he could reach the doorknobs {notice the sneaky/look what I can do face in exhibit B} something that he had done numerous times. He would slip off them now and again but nothing to panic you because it was just off the floor 4 inches (yes I measured) and this little monkey has done much scarier things. The last time he fell he landed on his stomach hitting his diaphragm just right and it knocked the wind out of him. He jumped up and ran to Preston who was sitting on the floor next to me on the couch. Paxton ran to him in a panic because he wasn't able to get his breath yet, Preston immediately laid him back in a "football" technique to help him breath. He still hadn't taken a breath yet and then finally what seems like eternity he took one breath but then his eyes rolled back and he began to seize. I grabbed my phone which was luckily right beside me and called 911, to my regret I was the crazy mom screaming on the phone that my son was dying and was completely in a panic and kept screaming for them to hurry hurry hurry!  Paxton was now turning blue and continuing to seize but he was breathing now. The Ambulance came in what seemed to me as hours but realistically it took 2 minutes for them to get here (doesn't feel that fast when you think you are losing your entire life!) the paramedics could not get the seizing  to stop and so they told us we were going for a ride.  I rode in the ambulance with Paxton and Preston rode with a Police officer who had also responded. They were not able to stop the seizure until we pulled into the Hospital parking lot. {Later by looking at the time on the pictures I took, the time on my phone to 911 and the paramedics time of when the seizure stopped. We found out that his seizure lasted for 22 minutes. This according to our ER Doctor is a VERY long time for a seizure.} He was then sedated due to the medication given to stop the seizure. Grandparents were called and they came to lend support and love. Paxton was given a blessing to which I am very grateful. He was given a CAT Scan, an Ultra Sound and a EKG. Checking to make sure that he didn't have internal damage and bleeding. Then we were told to wait out the waking up process and then the Dr. would come and talk to us. As they were trying to find out the reason for the seizure, we were told by almost every person that helped us how odd it was for a tiny fall to make him lapse into a full blown seizure for 22 minutes. We were told the waking up process would be hard for him and it was but once he worked through that couple hours he woke up and was back with us. When the Dr. came back in he assured us that all the tests came back and that he was extremely healthy and after talking to the Dr.'s down at Primary Children's Hospital about what happened they all concluded that it was a sort of freak accident. They think what happened is he had the breath knocked out of him and it took a while to regain it, his body then went into a seizure as a protective way to deal with the trauma of that. They said sometimes the body does weird things like that as a way to cope but they hadn't ever seen it do this. However he is completely healthy and there are no negative side affects to having a seizure which was such a relief to me because I was thinking brain damage and so much more. Simply put we learned that a seizure is the brain misfiring a few signals and once you calm the brain down enough (in Paxton's case through medication) it goes back to it's normal functions. However the Dr. did tell us that witnessing your child having a seizure is one of the scariest things to have happen so at least we got that over with. We are so grateful that our sweet boy is healthy and that it all ended up being a horrible day and nothing more!!! It was such a scary experience for us and it's so hard to see your baby with all the wires and monitors on. I can only imagine what parents go through with children fighting through horrible sicknesses. Truly grateful for all our blessings most of all for Paxton!

{Disclaimer: I took these two pictures several minutes before he fell, I had put the camera back in my diaper bag and came back to the couch before he fell.}

I took one picture in the Ambulance immediately after they said the seizure had stopped.

{some might question me taking pictures in the midst of all this but I am so grateful to have these! I am a family documentor, this is what I do.}

October {Part Three}

My amazing friend Shanda of Shanda Photography took our family pictures three times this year, this is our first shoot at Black Island Farms corn maze. This was a candid shoot of us just playing, there's far too many to post them all but here are some of my favorite {by "some" I mean like a ton}
